As
luck would have it, our work got the attention of Nikki
Sherritt, a director who's parents had adopted a puppy
named Joey from Dogs Deserve Better. (See his
story, directly below.) Nikki believed in our cause, and
determined that she would help in whatever way she could as soon
as she was able.
Joey,
March 2004, Dallas, TX
This
is the story of Joey, a little 3 month old male chow mix, who
was found running the streets and brought into rescue. Joey
had been tied to a tree and really messed up his neck. His neck
wound was so bad that his jugular vein was in the wrong place
and he would have died if he had not received medical attention.
Some people brought him to Suzie's front door and she didn't
hesitate; she rushed him to her vet, even though she has many
fosters already.
A
woman named Nikki who is a huge animal lover, called after seeing
his pic. He looked just like her dog who her parents have always
loved. They wanted Joey! So his story had a happy ending. Update
from Nikki: All the boys have been sleeping in my room lately!! Oy! Joey
and Wolfgang are joined at the hip still. He is a lover. I
have never seen a dog be so gentle! We love him so much.
After
moving to Seattle, Nikki approached April Wren,
of Madison
Street Films, about collaborating on the production
of a PSA for Dogs Deserve Better. April was totally onboard with
the idea, and when Nikki called Tammy, executive director of Dogs
Deserve Better, she was ecstatic! This was something we
at Dogs Deserve Better had been really in need of, and
we are so incredibly grateful to Nikki and April for taking on
this project for us.
Adrian
Zmed, star of TJ Hooker and Grease 2, who not only came
to Chain Off 2006 as our special guest, but also
agreed to star in the PSA for us, acted alongside Mojo,
a DDB rescued chained dog from Seattle, Washington. Adrian
has proven to be a true gem for Dogs Deserve Better, and he's
a joy to know!
The
shoot took place Monday, August 7th at Point Robinson Park, Vashon/Maury
Island, Washington. Photos of the shoot throughout this
page, and now, you can watch the finished PSA Right Here!
Here's
where we could REALLY use your help...We need EVERYONE to get
this PSA airing on your local tv stations! Print out
the form, below, or if you know the format your local station
uses, please e-mail Tammy Grimes at tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org
with all the information.
Secondly,
the total cost of the shoot which is NOT able to be donated,
mostly supplies, props, film, etc., is $3,000.
This is SO much cheaper than we ever imagined we could get a PSA
produced for! Can you help us out
with any of this cost? We are very hopeful we
can get this Public Service Announcement shown free on many, many
station across the U.S., thanks to the wonderful talents of Adrian
Zmed, April Wren, Nikki Sherritt, and their crew.
But,
as you can imagine, to a smaller organization like ourselves,
$3,000 is still difficult to come up with, especially
after Chain Off 2006, our biggest awareness campaign ever. If
you can help us with a donation today toward the PSA, it would
be so much appreciated, and you will know that your dollars are
helping in a huge way to get the message out there. Thank
You!
Please
donate today! We need your help.

you'd like to donate via regular USPS mail,
